As the daughter of two veterinarians I have spent my entire life surrounded by animals of all shapes and sizes. I currently have one dog (my son will tell you it is his dog) named Yukon, and he comes to work with me every day. Yukon was a rescue from The Lab Connection, and couldn’t be a better dog. I can honestly say I have spent the better part of my life in this building. The building is bigger now and thankfully updated, but I started coming here as a small child to watch my dad work at the Oregon Veterinary Clinic. Now my business partners (Drs. Rachel Orvick and Craig Schley and Drs. Jim and Molly Stevenson) own the clinic and I operate the Hound Huddle. I have worked as a business, real estate and estate planning attorney for over a decade (I can tell you how you can take care of your pets in your estate planning!) and am happy to now be back with the dogs. It is amazing how much there is to learn about them and from them. I think the most important thing for clients of the Hound Huddle to know about me and all of my staff is that we know your dogs are members of your family. We take the responsibility of caring for them very seriously and appreciate the time we get to spend with them.

I am a 2010 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and Environmental Studies, and I am currently enrolled in MATC’s Veterinary Technician program. I started working at Hound Huddle in March of 2010, and I've loved every minute of it! I’m originally from Plymouth, Wisconsin, which is roughly the same size as Oregon. I knew from an early age that I wanted to work with dogs when I grew up. We always had at least one dog in my household—Boxers and Boston Terriers, specifically—and they were my constant companions. I now have two dogs of my own; I adopted my Great Dane Bella (and yes, she weighs more than I do!) in 2008, and I rescued my one-eyed Boston Terrier Buster in July of 2010. They are an odd looking pair, but they’re really good pals. My favorite part of coming to work besides playing with so many wonderful, adorable dogs each day? It’s “Bring your dog to work day,” everyday! How many people are lucky enough to be able to say that?

I graduated from UW-Whitewater in May of 2009 with my bachelors degree in English Education. During the school year I teach 8th grade Reading and Composition in Evansville, WI. Although I never grew up with dogs, every one of my family members now has a dog! First my brother got a lab (Dixie). Then I got my first dog as my college graduation present. Her name is Zayda; she is a two year old Great Dane. I started bringing her to Hound Huddle shortly after I got her, and she loves it so much! She is a great companion and friend, and she keeps me busy! My parents also have a Great Dane now (Hannah), and my sister has a German shepherd (Justice). They all love playing together and have become beloved family members. Needless to say, I have spent a lot of time with dogs over the past few years and have really become a “dog person.” I love learning their personalities and learning more about how to train them and work with them. This will be my first summer working at Hound Huddle, and I am so excited! I can’t think of a better way to spend summer vacation than playing with so many fun-loving dogs all day! I am so glad that I get the opportunity to work here now, and I know firsthand how comforting it is to know that your fur-children are being well taken care of!

My love of animals began during childhood when I had at various times cats, hamsters, birds…and a dog. In later years I kept rabbits and Guinea Pigs, but always a dog. Having retired from my profession, I presently enjoy the company of a horse, three sheep…and three dogs. Looking back, it seems natural and appropriate that I gravitated to The Hound Huddle. When I saw a job advertisement in January 0f 2008 I thought I would like working with a pack of dogs. I was wrong. In truth, I love working with them. Caring for animals and keeping them safe and happy is a joyful pastime for me, and many of the most meaningful experiences of my life involved dogs. Thanks to the many people who entrust the care of their beloved dogs to The Hound Huddle, I have made scores of new canine friends, and return home after work covered in dog hair and paw prints. How lucky can a fellow be? Thank you, to all the customers for allowing me the opportunity to share the joy of knowing your dogs!

I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion with a business minor. Ever since I was a youngster, I have lived on a dairy farm just outside of Monroe, WI and cannot remember a time when my family didn’t have at least two dogs running around. Growing up on the farm has taught me many things about animals, values, and taking care of family pets; whether it was a cat, cow, or dog. I am fond of dogs in particular; each one is so unique with their personalities that I am constantly learning new things. Plus, there is never a boring day! In June of 2010, I rescued a boxer mix from a humane society in Iowa and since then he has brought many laughs to my household. His name is Tyson, and no he is not named after Mike Tyson like most people think, I just liked the name. That is why I am so excited to be working at the Hound Huddle and look forward to meeting your furry family member!

I come from a fifth generation family dairy farm, which is where my passion for animals began. Throughout my childhood I was very active in 4-H, and I was able to learn the dedication and hard work needed to care for various kinds of animals, as well as the joy they can bring to my life. I still take these lessons into consideration to this day! I started working at the Hound Huddle in December 2009, and my favorite part of coming in to work is the enjoyment in seeing everyone’s smiling faces early in the morning, hairy or not! I also love learning about the personalities of other dogs and how different they are from each other and from us, but also how similar to us they can be. I also work at Westnesse Horse Farm, and I recently started my own business, Ace Performance Horses, located at Westernesse Morgan Reiners outside of Oregon. My long term goal is to one day own my own horse training and boarding facility so I can continue my work with horses. I want to be able to inspire and offer opportunities to others who share my love for these fantastic animals.

It started when I was six. A mangy looking thing stared up at me with an underbite so severe her upper lip got caught up in her smirk. The trace amount of fur on her body was white-ish with a tan spot in the middle of her back, and her curly tail was home to a few crumpled leaves. She weighed in at about 12 pounds. I named her Sparkles. My mom renamed her Sparky. She ruled the house from her perch on the top of the couch. Much to Sparky's dismay, Pepper, a gorgeous golden retriever lab mix, moved in with us about a year later. She swam, chased chipmunks, and played fetch! I was hooked – I could never live without a dog.
I moved to Madison around the 4th of July from Chicago. I lived in Chicago for five years going to school and then working as an attorney in Criminal Defense and Immigration. While in Chicago, I volunteered at Chicago Animal Care and Control and for a fostering group my friends started called One Tail at a Time. One Tail pulls dogs from high kill shelters and places them in foster until they find a home. I agreed to foster their very first dog, Troy, who was set to be euthanized for toy aggression. He puked all over himself on the way over, chewed every pair of shoes my roommates and I had, stole food off of our plates, bit at our arms, routinely peed on himself, and ran away every chance he got. I fell in love instantly and never gave him back. Now, you might see him lounging around in the day care area. I'm happy to be here at the Hound Huddle because I love love love dogs!

I've been working here since the end of August 2010 and am currently going to school to become a veterinary technician and will graduate in the spring of 2012. I've loved animals in general ever since I was little but dogs have always held a special place in my heart. I have a soft spot for small dogs as I have a maltipoo from a rescue named Rocky. I love working at the Hound Huddle because the dogs that come here aren't just animals to me-each one has its own unique personality and it's fun to see them interact with each other. There's this whole language that dogs have and I love watching and figuring out why they do what they do. To me these dogs are like people's children and I thank their owners for letting me spend time with them. It's such a stress reliever and one of the best jobs I've ever had. How could you not be in a good mood when you see 20 or so dogs waiting to play with you?

I have always loved animals of all kinds, but especially dogs. I am a Madison native but have spent the past 10 years in Louisville, KY. While in Kentucky I became active in agility, competing with my dog Cindy and enjoying lots of success until a shoulder injury cut her agility career short. I became very active in border collie rescue, which led to the addition of more border collies to my family and switched my focus to obedience, rally and canine disc. Since I had a few border collies I thought it would be fun to get involved in herding! I moved out to a close friends working border collie farm and spent 2 years focusing on herding, starting most of her young dogs and adding 3 more dogs to my own crew for a total of 6. In 2010 I decided to move back home to Madison to be closer to my family. I am currently training my own dogs for agility, obedience, rally, conformation, herding and occasionally some frisbee! To date I have earned 22 AKC/UKC titles with my own dogs and clients dogs, including 3 obedience High In Trials, and I hope to increase that number this year. When I'm not working with my dogs you can find me down the stairs at the OVC.
